Description

If you took a spaceship to Venus and looked out the window, the planet would look like a hazy white ball to your eyes. Thick clouds completely obscure the surface. This is a view of Venus's surface using radar data from the Magellan spacecraft, which allowed us to slice through the clouds and get a peek at the volcanic features. Side note, isn't it crazy it has been almost 50 years since the last mission that entered Venus's atmosphere? Well, not humans personally because that would be pretty toasty, but the last Venus mission to dip into the atmosphere was Pioneer 13 in 1978. Several future missions to Venus include atmospheric probes—let's cross our fingers the funding holds out. This is a print of a clay disk I painted to look like Venus.
