During totality of a lunar eclipse, the Moon turns a deep reddish orange color. This is caused by Earth blocking direct sunlight as it passes between the Sun and Moon. The light able to get through is mostly red wavelengths refracted by Earth's atmosphere as other colors are scattered away.
